Bertel! Live @ Seltjarnarnes

Bertel!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhhcpY4yMxQ

Bertel! , a band of four, was formed in 2001. In their first years, they played rock and roll, punk and participated in “Músíktilraunir” 2004 only 14-15 years old and made it to the finals. After that their music developed fast and changed completely.
Now, Bertel! Is what happens when old school guitar meets a team of synthesizers and a human drum machine led by vocals and saxophones tripping on delay.
Recently Bertel! released their debut album named after the band. Forming their own record label. Playing all kinds of music in swimming pools, kindergardens and old peoples homes they funded their release.
While working on the record Bertel! also participated in a remaking of the old Clint Eastwood western “A fistful of dollars” with a French director. He decided to remake the old western in Icelandic environment. He contacted Bertel! through myspace and Bertel! composed new music for the film. The film is now shown in a French art festival in Paris.
The daily newspaper Fréttablaðið (jan. 2007) named Bertel one of the young and upcoming band of the year. Bertel! got good reviews in New Musical Express - NME Radar last year when the band played of venue last Airwaves. Bertel! was this summer the local arts group of Seltjarnarnes.
When space meets earth, when analog meets digital and the moon meets the sun. So if you want to dance, save the last dance for them.

DJ Platurn From Oakland to Iceland: A Hip-Hop Homecoming

Oakland to Iceland
The homecoming of a DJ who left Iceland @ the age of 7. Now he's back to search for his Icelandic roots.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75NmFNWRyH0

From Oakland to Iceland : A Hip-Hop Homecoming is a documentary about Iceland native DJ Platurn, raised in California and his "homecoming" tour playing in Iceland where he lived until age 7. The film explores his 3 week tour playing hip-hop music for his native Icelanders, where he exhibits his talents as a scratch/trick DJ, among other things.
DJ Platurn is also part of the famed Oakland Faders crew from the East Bay Area who won the Toyota Scion Mixtape Competition in 2004.
The film includes footage of DJ Platurn literally "coming home", traveling into the moonlike countryside of Iceland, re-connecting with his grandparents and relatives, playing various gigs and shows in Reykjavik, and of course, interviews and excerpts with dozens of local DJ´s, rappers and MC´s, graffiti artists, B-Boys and promoters in the local hip-hop scene in Iceland.
The film also explores what the Icelandic DJ and rapper´s reality is all about being from a safe and relatively wealthy small Nordic country; what they rhyme about, how they experience what hip-hop is all about, local politics in hip-hop and how Icelandic hip-hop music has a life of it´s own.
Finally, the film explores the bi-cultural issues involved in DJ Platurn´s life as an Icelander raised in the U.S.A. and in his DJ-ing, music and career.
The film is in English, is approximately 60 minutes long and will be premiered in the fall of 2008.

Trúbrot in Wikipedia

Trúbrot were an Icelandic psychedelic/progressive rock band active in the late 1960s and early 1970s. They were one of the foremost groups on the Icelandic rock scene from this time period.
The band was formed in 1969 as an Icelandic supergroup comprised of members of the bands Hljómar and Flowers. Their eponymous first album was released that same year, a collection of orchestral and organ-backed pop songs which included a cover of The Beatles's "Things We Said Today" and a nine-minute mini-opera "Afgangar", which was based on Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser.
While the first album is entirely in Icelandic, later albums featured more English singing. 1971's Lifun came in a hexagonal cover.
Several members of this band would become part of the group Náttúra, who released one album in 1972. Trúbrot itself broke up in 1973.

Song of the 29. Week: Abba cover by HAM

HAM's "Voulez-Vous", the best Abba cover I know
Concert of HAM @ Reykjavik to Rotterdam Festival
Friday, the 23rd of November 2007
Waterfront
Warm up by the band Reykjavik!

HAM is an Icelandic rock band which was active in the years 1988 to 1994. The band reunited for two Rammstein concerts in 2001 and last appeared in concert in september 2007. They did not attain significant popularity while active, but have gradually come to be acknowledged as an important part of Icelandic rock history. Today they command a cult following among many Icelandic rock enthusiasts.
History
HAM's first album was Hold, a controversial record which received no radio airtime. The band's attempt to get into the big league began when they warmed up for The Sugarcubes in five concerts in 1988. The following year they released the album Buffalo Virgin with One Little Indian records and held several concerts in New York. The album Pleasing the Pirahna was recorded in 1990 but was never released - supposedly another album by the name Pimpmobile was also recorded but remains unreleased.
In 1991-1992, the band participated in the making of the film Sódóma Reykjavík, with singer and guitarist Sigurjón Kjartansson writing most of the soundtracks. HAM's participation in the making of this cult Icelandic classic played a significant part in the band's later notoriety.
The album Saga rokksins was released in 1993, and on June 4 1994, the band held its last concert in the now defunct night club Tunglið in downtown Reykjavík. The live concert recording was subsequently released as the album Lengi lifi. In 1995, the band's remaining studio recordings were released as the album Dauður hestur (Equus Mortus).
HAM did not perform again until 2001, when it was clear that the German metal band Rammstein would be holding a concert in Iceland that summer. It was rumoured that Sigurjón had spoken of HAM reuniting for a concert if Rammstein were to visit Iceland on tour. The band played in the Gaukur á Stöng bar on June 14 2001 and then again on June 15, with 5500 people in attendance. The Gaukur á stöng concert was later released as the live album Skert flog.
HAM was to participate in the music festival Reykjavík Rokkar in the summer of 2006 along with The Darkness and Motörhead. The festival was cancelled due to disappointing ticket sales, but HAM instead performed in the NASA club in downtown Reykjavík on June 29 to a packed house. In october 28 the same year HAM performed at a north atlantic music festival in Copenhagen with bands from Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
Lyrics of "Voulez-Vous"

PEOPLE EVERYWHERE
A SENSE OF EXPECTATION HANGING IN THE AIR
GIVING OUT A SPARK
ACROSS THE ROOM
YOUR EYES ARE GLOWING IN THE DARK

AND HERE WE GO AGAIN
WE KNOW THE START
WE KNOW THE END
MASTERS OF THE SCENE
WE'VE DONE IT ALL BEFORE
AND NOW WE'RE BACK
TO GET SOME MORE
YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN

chorus

VOULEZ-VOUS
TAKE IT NOW OR LEAVE IT
NOW IS ALL WE GET
NOTHING PROMISED NO REGRETS

VOULEZ-VOUS
MAKE NO EXPLAINATIONS
YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO
LA QUESTION C'EST VOULEZ-VOUS?

VOULEZ -VOUS...

I KNOW WHAT YOU THINK
THE GIRL MEANS BUSINESS SO I OFFER HER A DRINK
LOOKING MIGHTY PROUD
I SEE YOU LEAVE YOUR TABLE
PUSHING THROUGH THE CROWD

I'M REALLY GLAD YOU CAME
YOU KNOW THE RULES
YOU KNOW THE GAME
MASTER OF THE SCENE

WE'VE DONE IT ALL BEFORE
AND NOW WE'RE BACK
TO GET SOME MORE
YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN

chorus
