Iceland in the city Showcase @ Manchester October 2006

Iceland In The City:
Icelandic showcase @ Manchester City featuring:

MY SUMMER AS A SALVATION SOLDIER
Thórir Georg Jónsson is a poetic pop-geyser and one man band/singer/ songwriter of rare magnitude, peaking red on all meters. His music could be said to recall Elliott Smith, Xiu Xiu, The Microphones, Postal Service and why not a Nick Drake surrounded by dusted half-broken cables often used by Cex.

ÚLPA
When their debut album Mea Culpa was released in Iceland in the Autumn of 2001, Úlpa had already become a house-hold name in the music scene and shared stage with artists such as Stephen Malkmus, Blonde Redhead, Trans Am and The Fucking Champs. Úlpa have just finished recording their third album scheduled for release autumn 2006.

MAMMUT
Three months after forming, and with various family links to Iceland’s most revered musical exports, Mammút won the annual battle of the bands (Músíktilraunir) competition in Iceland.
Mammút's eponymous debut was released in Iceland on the legendary Sugarcubes founded Smekkleysa (Bad Taste) label, in spring 2006 to critical acclaim and commercial success, including a number one airplay single with the track Thorkell.

ÓLÖF ARNALDS
Ólöf Arnalds was born in 1980. Last spring 2006 she graduated from the Icelandic academy of arts with a B.A degree in composition and new media. Ólöf has played with many Icelandic bands and musicians, such as múm, Slowblow, Stórsveit Nix Noltes and Skúli Sverrisson.
Ólöfs debut solo album will be released in autumn 2006.

ELÍZA
In her early teens Eliza formed the band Kolrassa Krokridandi/Bellatrix. Alongside studying opera in London, Eliza also wrote and produced an album with the rock band Skandinavia in 2004 and received critical acclaim for it, with magazines like Rocksound likening her to Kate Bush and Kerrang! hailing her as a "spectacular vocal talent!"
Now Eliza has embarked on her first solo project - scheduled for release in Iceland in the Autumn of 2006.
