You are in Control is an annual international conference exploring digital business developments in the creative industries, including music, media, arts, design and gaming. It will take place for the fourth consecutive year in Reykjavik, Iceland on 1-2. October, 2010 @ the Hilton Nordica Reykjavik Hotel.
The conference is a collaborative effort between Iceland’s creative industries to create a platform for discussion about opportunities in the changing marketplace. You are in Control aims to empower attendees with knowledge on how to capitalize in the fast changing digital distribution world by the sharing of knowledge across the various industries.
You are in Control seeks to define new opportunities and business models in the digital space as well as looking into new consumer behaviour and marketing trends. The event prides itself on encouraging non-hierarchy networking as well as inviting an equal number of men and women to speak.
You are in Control is hosted by Iceland Music Export in partnership with the Trade Council of Iceland, Centre For Icelandic Arts, Iceland Design Centre, Icelandic Film Centre and Reykjavík International Film Festival.
Day 1 - 1. October
Early session: The classical contrabass Borgar Magnason will perform in the morning. Borgar has played with countless groups and chamber ensembles all over the US and Europe. In recent years, compositions and various collaborative projects have been in the foreground of Borgar’s busy schedule. He is currently working on his first solo outing.
Lunchtime jam: During lunch, Agent Fresco will spice up the food with some vibrant rock. Agent Fresco was formed in early 2008 with the goal of competing in Músíktilraunir (Iceland’s well established and important ‘Battle of the Bands’ contest). Just weeks later, the band accepted the competition’s grand prize.
Afternoon delight: With sounds that seem to penetrate to the bone, Mammút will take over as the day 1 nears the end. Mammút’s second album, "Karkari", scored four #1 hits on the radio, resulting in nominations for ‘Best New Album’ and ‘Best Singer’ at the Icelandic Music Awards in 2009. Day 2 - 2. October
Early session: Coffee and Sóley go well together as the singstress performs dreamy acoustic tunes. Pianist, singer and composer Sóley Stefánsdóttir has been playing her heart out with Icelandic indie-collective Seabear for the past few years, and has now branched out on her own with her debut album "Theater Island".
Lunchtime jam: The jazz ensemble of Tómas R. Einarsson will play during one of the highlights of the conference, the New Nordic Food profiling and showcase event. Bass player/composer Tómas R. Einarsson, accompanied by fabled jazz guitarist Ómar Guðjónsson, has for a long time been one of the most active jazz musicians in Iceland.
Afternoon delight: The infamous Dikta will close day 2 as guests enjoy cocktails. Their much anticipated third album, "Get It Together", went gold and was nominated album of the year at the Icelandic Music Awards 2010. The album is currently one of the best selling albums in Iceland and the single "Thank You" is by far the most-played song of the year in Icelandic radio.
