IMX (Icelandic Music Export) new website dedicated to Icelandic artists and bands: www.icelandicmusic.is

Icelandic Music Comes Under One Roof
20th of April 2007

A new government-backed website is to be launched in May as a one-stop shop for Icelandic music.

Reykjavík (ICENEWS) 20 April 2007 – the Icelandic music industry is set to receive a boost with the launch of a new website dedicated to Icelandic artists and bands. The website, www.icelandicmusic.is, will be fully launched at the end of May but in the meantime Icelandic music fans can sign up to the mailing list at the site to receive quarterly newsletters.

Icelandic music followers worldwide will be able to search for Icelandic bands alphabetically and by genre, see forthcoming music events in Iceland and abroad and find articles on Icelandic music. There’s also a section dedicated to the media with press cuttings, PR releases, high res photos and full-length biographies.
Icelandic music has shot to international prominence in recent years largely thanks to the success of Sigur Ros, Mum, Mugison, Björk and The Sugarcubes. There are, however, a whole host of other classical, jazz, folk, experimental, dance, and pop / rock artists who are also creating original, world-class music. The website also aims to give all Icelandic bands and artists who have released albums the possibility of uploading their own material, such as MP3 tracks, current touring information, links to Myspace pages, etc.

The website is being set up by Icelandic Music Export, or IMX, a government-sponsored initiative which is led and partly funded by rightsholders’ organisations in Iceland and privately sponsored by Landsbankinn. IMX actively promotes Icelandic music abroad and organises Icelandic artist participation at events and festivals, such as Great Escape UK, Spot, PopKomm, Midem, Eurosonic and SXSW. IMX is now aiming to bring the different strands of the Icelandic music scene together under one roof with the launch of their new fully-comprehensive website. The venture is headed up by Anna Hildur Hildibrandsdottir, whose previous roles include UK manager of the Icelandic label Smekkleysa and European PR and marketing manager for Iceland Airwaves.
