Dikta is a young, four piece indie rock band from Iceland, where gloomy endless nights during the long winter months and nearly 24 hours of perpetual daylight from June to August set the perfect atmosphere for creating great songs. The members of Dikta, Haukur, Skúli and the two Jóns, have been friends since early childhood, and after forming Dikta in 1999, they soon gained a large following for their unique heavy yet soulful haunting indie rock. In 2006 Dikta recorded their second album, “Hunting for Happiness”. Produced by Ace of Skunk Anansie and released by the Sugarcubes-owned label, Smekkleysa/Bad Taste, it quickly became one of Iceland's best selling rock albums, with three of its singles reaching the top of the charts in Iceland. Dikta’s performance at Iceland Airwaves in front of a packed venue earned them a write up in Rolling Stone Magazine, and after hitting the local venues for a year, Dikta headed out to play clubs in London, Copenhagen, L.A. and New York. Dikta has shared stages with bands like Vampire Weekend, We are Scientists, CSS, Ra Ra Riot, Nico Vega and !!! (Chk, Chk, Chk) and is known for a powerful yet intimate live show. Dikta is currently writing material for their third album, due out in early 2009. They have been approached by producer Ross Robinson, who has worked with such acts as Korn, The Cure, At The Drive-In, Slipknot and Limp Bizkit, and they are in talks about collaboration.
“... one of the most intriguing albums of the year, a forerunner in the race for top honors …" DecoyMusic.com USA 2006 – Ben Rice
"…great piano rock that everyone will love." Hear/Say: America's College Music Magazine 2007
"For many of today's hitmakers ... Coldplay made it okay to not play tough rock. They re-opend the door for melody and emotion. And the band spilled through: the Frey, Augustana, Lifehouse and OneRepublic in the U.S.; Starsailor, Keane, Athlete in the UK.; Pilot Speed in Canada; Kettcar in Germany; Dikta in Iceland." Spin Magazine 2008 - David Marchese
"The sultry tones of lead singer Haukur’s vocals are striking and could capture the attention of the female population of the planet ..."
"This pomp rock album is a dramatic fusion of soulful wedges sliced delicately with a smidgen of indie rock." "… this album’s polished finish and timeless appeal has conjured up an album that is a potential classic." Salvo Magazine - UK 2007
"Absolutely kicking old school Rawk and Roll with a brain." subba-cultcha.com - UK 2007
