Wikipedia: Earth Intruders

Released digitally on April 9, 2007,with a physical release appearing later on May 21, 2007, fourteen days after the release of Volta. This is due to new mixes still being produced. The track is co-produced by Timbaland and Danja. A fifteen second sample of the track appeared on the Rhino Records online ringtone website on April 1, 2007. The purchased ringtone features a different clip (with different lyrics) to the one used in the online preview. On April 3, 2007 it was reported that the Björk section of the Rhino Records online ringtone store had been removed. After a broadcast of the song on the internet radio station WOXY on April 6, 2007 the song was made widely available across file-sharing networks
On April 7, 2007 the "Mark Stent Extended Edit" surfaced onto the Australian iTunes Store; most other iTunes Stores made the single available on April 9, the official release date of the digital single. It is unknown whether the Australian iTunes Store released the single early in error given that the official release date was two days later.

In an interview on mtv.com Björk talked about the background of the song.
“The song "Earth Intruders," in particular, was sculpted soon after Björk awoke from a dream she had during a cross-Atlantic flight to New York. In the dream, the singer said a "tsunami of millions and millions of poverty-stricken people" swelled high above the airplane she was a passenger on. Eventually, the wave overtook the plane, hit land and razed the White House into oblivion. "It's a quite chaotic song," she said of Volta's first single. "Lyrically, it's a collection of all of these images" burned into her memory, from her trip to Indonesia as well as her vivid, in-flight reverie."

Björk has revealed that the video is going to be animated by Michel Ocelot.
A preview was shown during "Le Grand Journal" show on French Canal+ on April 17th. The video features Björk's face singing, while a group of men dances with the tribal beat. A preview is also on her official myspace page. The video will be made available in the iTunes Store on April 24.
The music video leaked on 4/20/07.

Reviews
Review from an article in UK newspaper The Guardian, March 11, 2007.
“Most newsworthy, perhaps, is lead single 'Earth Intruders', one of two amazing Timbaland-assisted beats. It finds Björk returning playfully to the dancefloor after a long absence, with busy, loaded rhythms and Konono N°1 on what sound like Eighties arcade thumb pianos."
Review on musicweek.com, March 8, 2007.
“Featuring a loop of African drumming riddims, behind Björk's fabulous squawking vocals, this might be her biggest airplay hit for years."
Review on mtv.com, March 14, 2007.
“Earth Intruders" is an industrial-tinged number, rife with video game-esque atmospherics and calypso tonalities — think Nine Inch Nails meets Devo. A rhythmic, marching sound runs throughout much of the track, which "portrays the emotions of impatience, urgency, and being very eager to communicate."
Review on pitchforkmedia.com, March 26, 2007.
“Nowhere is Björk's concern for the planet more apparent than on Volta's first single, "Earth Intruders". Based on a loopy, frenetic Timbaland marching beat, with added percussion by African collective Konono N°1, it's the album's catchiest song, with Björk chanting "We are the Earth's intruders / We are the sharp shooters."
Review on sprk.nl, March 20, 2007.
“Obviously a Timbaland track. Think Nelly Furtado's Maneater - only cooler and Björk-ified. Really cool song, excellent way to start the album, very upbeat. There are these Brazilian-type beats and cool synths. Seriously, Maneater is your best point of reference. ”

Charts
"Earth Intruders" has reached number 67 on the UK Official Download Chart, and number 78 on the main UK Singles Chart. In the United States, the song debuted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at number 84 in the issue dated April 28, 2007. This is Björk's second Hot 100 entry, the first being "Big Time Sensuality" in 1993, which peaked at number 88.

Lyrics of Earth Intruders

We are the earth intruders
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches

Turmoil!
Carnage!

Here come the earth intruders
We are the paratroopers
The beat of sharpshooters
Comes straight from voodoo

With our feet thumbing
With our feet marching
Grinding the skeptics into the soil

Shower of goodness coming to end the doubt—pouring over
Shower of goodness coming to end

We are the earth intruders
We are the sharpshooters
Flock of parachuters
Necessary voodoo

I have guided my bones through some voltage
And love them still
And love them too

Metallic
Carnage
Furiousity
Feel the speed!

We are the earth intruders
We are the sharpshooters,
Flock of parachuters
Necessary voodoo

There is turmoil out there
Carnage! Rambling!
What is to do but dig
Dig bones out of earth

Mud graves
Timber
Morbid trenches

Here come the earth intruders
There’ll be no resistance
We are the cannoneerers
Necessary voodoo

And the beast with many heads and arms rolling
Steamroller!

We are the earth intruders
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches

Forgive this tribe!

We are the earth intruders
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches

We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches

We are the earth intruders

We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches
Marching!

We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches
Marching!

March

March

March

We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches
Marching voodoo!
